Palestinian flag to be raised at UNESCO Headquarters

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Palestinian flag will be raised at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on December 13 to mark Palestine’s admission to the Organization.

The ceremony will be presided over by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas, as well as Foreign Minister Riad Maliki. The President of the UNESCO’s General Conference Katalin Bogyay and the Chairperson of the Organization’s Executive Board Alissandra Cummins, will also be present.

UNESCO’s General Conference admitted Palestine as the Organization’s 195th Member on October 31. Membership became official on November 23, when Palestine signed and accepted UNESCO’s Constitution at the National Archives in London.

A press conference will be held with President Abbas following the ceremony.

UNESCO will broadcast the events live via the Globecast-SERTE network. A broadcast quality feed with audio in Arabic, French and English will be available free of charge, along with b-roll footage, the Organization said in a press release.
