ANC slams ‘ineffective’ international pressure on Armenian authoritiesDecember 21, 2011 - 16:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc coordinator Levon Zurabyan slammed international pressure as ineffective. “International community turned a blind eye to human rights violations in Armenia, without putting effective pressure on authorities. Were we waiting for assistance from international community, our “political detainees” would still be in prison,” he said, dwelling on WikiLeaks publications calling on U.S. Congress leaders to put pressure on Armenian authorities. Zurabyan further noted that at the beginning of the year ANC forced authorities into establishing a political dialogue after the latter fulfilled the three demands. According to Congress coordinator, since 2008, the ANC has urged the release of all political prisoners and establishment of a dialogue with authorities.
