WORLD ARMENIAN CONGRESS STARTED IN MOSCOW

PanARMENIAN.Net - The constituent congress of the World Armenian Organization (WAO) started in Moscow today. Presidents of Armenia and Russia Robert Kocharian and Vladimir Putin are expected to address the forum opening. As chief of the WAO organizational committee, chairman of the Union of Armenians of Russia (UAR) Ara Abrahamian earlier said in an interview with "Gazeta" Russian newspaper, the organization main task is to preserve and to strengthen the Armenian state. In his words, the WAO will also seek after international recognition of the Armenian genocide and resolution of the Karabakh conflict. Besides, the organization will engage in solving issues of economic promotion of Armenia - trade, investments. Specifically, a commercial and industrial holding with a fund of $100 million will be established at the congress, Abrahamian noted. Within the framework of the World Armenian Organization professional and structural sub-divisions specializing in working out political, international-legal, historical and other aspects of settlement of the Armenian-Turkish relations are expected to be formed. Specifically, the issue concerns creation of an international center or institute for studying the Armenian issue and the problem of the Genocide, the UAR chairman said.
