Apple disables push email in Germany after Motorola caseFebruary 24, 2012 - 18:37 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Apple on Friday, February 24 disabled its push email function in Germany after rival Motorola earlier this month won a patent case. As M&C reported citing DPA, the push email function is used in Apple's MobileMe and iCloud services to pass emails automatically to mobile devices. A push service sends messages without waiting for the device to search for updates. The two US companies are fighting over technology patents in several countries. A German court ruled earlier this month that Apple had infringed a Motorola patent used in GPRS wireless communications. “We believe Motorola's patent is invalid and will be appealing against the injunction obtained by Motorola Mobility,” a spokesman for Apple told DPA. Friday's move does not apply to non-Apple email services installed on Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad. Nor does it affect Apple email when it is pushed to desktop computers and laptops, Apple said. Customers can skirt the ban by setting their phones to check more often for email.
