ARMENIAN OPPOSITION HOLDS SITTING PROTEST ACTION DEMANDING RETIREMENT OF AUTHORITIESApril 10, 2004 - 19:21 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Since yesterday the supporters of the joint opposition forces of Armenia started "sedentary" protest action in the Liberty Square in Yerevan, demanding retirement of the current authorities. By a decision of the opposition leadership each midday new data on the situation will be gathered and meetings will be held in the square at 6:00 p.m. "till final victory." Policemen and traffic inspectors observe the happening in the square. Meanwhile, calm atmosphere is maintained in the city. It should be reminded that the decision to hold the "sedentary" protest action was made at yesterday's unsanctioned meeting held by of the joint opposition, which gathered 6.5 thousand according to the police data, while the organizers say 50-60 thousand. Opposition representatives demand retirement of Armenian President Robert Kocharian, whom they consider illegitimate, as many transgressions were available at the election past year. The manifestation goal is to make the authorities include the issue of changes in the law on referendum in the Parliament agenda. Thus, the opposition tries to fulfill the decision of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, passed last year, recommending to hold a referendum on confidence to the President.
