Media Can Promote Conduction of Fair and Transparent ReferendumOctober 28, 2005 - 15:12 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - "The right to express opinion and receive information is one of the fundamental principles of democracy," Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Bojana Urumova stated during today's seminar titled "Professionalism of Mass Media and Coverage of Referendum on Constitutional Amendments" initiated by the RA Office of the Council of Europe. She noted that the society should receive true information to make thee right choice. In her opinion with maintaining high level of professionalism mass media can make a big contribution to the conduction of fair and transparent referendum. In his turn head of the parliamentary standing committee on defense and national security issues Mher Shahgeldian voiced opinion that a positive outcome of the referendum will secure the development of Armenia during next 20 years. In his words, great attention is attached to professional approach of media towards the coverage of the referendum and providing the citizens with true information. In the context of constitutional amendments he noted the importance of development of independent media.![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
