Moscow Not Going to Impose Any Solution of Karabakh Conflict on Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs do their best within their mandate, Armenian President Robert Kocharian stated in an interview with the leading Armenian and Nagorno Karabakh TV Channels. In his words, they are called to assist the parties in the search for the problem resolution. "Sometimes I ask myself what I would do in their position, but to tell the truth I find it hard to answer. The Co-chairs have fixed authority and there were no attempts to intercept the initiative during 6-7 years. That is why despite the difficulties some progress is obvious. In 2001 in Key West the parties were rather close to the conflict settlement, in 2006 in Rambouillet we were close as well," the RA President noted.

When commenting on the statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said in Baku he will invite Robert Kocharian to Moscow for consultations on the Karabakh problem, the RA leader said, "I am well aware of the reaction that could be observed in Armenia. Really, immediately after the return from Baku Putin called we to share impressions of the meeting with the Azerbaijani President on the issues referring to the Karabakh problem. I felt no sign of pressure during the conversation. It was a friendly exchange of opinions. What happened in Baku? During the discussions the Russian President had an impression that the obstacle that caused the failure of Rambouillet talks may be removed. Under this impression he made the above mentioned statement and said he will call and invite me to Moscow. It was the wish of a person, who sincerely wants the conflict to be settled. The reaction these words caused in Armenia is clear. Possibly some people thought Aliyev and Putin agreed on something in Baku and then decided to impose a problem solution on Armenia. But it is no so at all. Our relations with Russia and our personal relations with the Russian President exclude such things. We did not fix a precise date but discussed the settlement details and agreed that we will meet for further discussion of the issue. I am convinced Vladimir Putin didn't guess what reaction his statement will arouse in Armenia."
