Opposition can set up single candidate to run for Mayor of Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Heritage Faction made a statement today on current financial situation.

The statement also referred to mayoral elections due in May 2009, specifying that the Party will demand the Government to promote legality, justice and freedom of choice at Mayoral elections. According to Anahit Bakhshyan, nomination of single opposition candidate to Mayoral post would be a correct decision. The nomination list will be completed with public and social opposition figures.

''We're ready to nominate our own candidate, should 2007 scenario repeat itself,'' the member of Heritage Faction Armen Martirosyan noted.

Heritage gave a negative assessment to recent Mayoral appointment, suggesting it could be used by the Government for its own interests.

''Gagik Beglaryan's appointment proved him unsure about victory in a straight fight,'' Heritage Faction member Larisa Alaverdyan stated.
