Tigran Karapetyan disapproves current format of RA-Turkish rapprochement

PanARMENIAN.Net - "We are against current Armenian-Turkish process, since Armenia does not conduct independent policy, linking its steps with Turkey's position," leader of People's Party Tigran Karapetyan told a joint news conference with Republican MP Lernik Alexanyan.

Karapetyan finds current rapprochement process to be a part of a big regional program implemented by world community, which creates relevant pre-requisites for Karabakh settlement, hardly acceptable to Armenia.

Besides he noted that pro-opposition forces which do not protest against protocols assist authorities some way or another. "First of all, I mean Armenian National Congress (ANC) which is silent now," Karapetyan stressed.

MP Lernik Aleksanyan stated in turn that Armenian authorities have adopted a right position. At the current stage of rapprochement it will be more proper for Armenia to ratify Protocols after Turkey, RPA representative finds.

At that he noted that authorities' position poses no threat to Armenian people, and if Turkish parliament fails to ratify Protocols "that will entail negative consequence for Turkey."

With regard to ANC's position, Aleksanyan accounted for it by unwillingness to impede in authorities' current efforts because when in power representatives of the bloc were in favor of such normalization. "On the other hand, they may have nothing to say, and that's a different question" he added.
