RA MFA: under UN Charter, territorial integrity can never be opposed to nations’ right to self-determination

PanARMENIAN.Net - RA Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said that there is a reference to the UN Charter in the pentalateral statement by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders.

And this reference was made to once again stress the international law’s misrepresentation by Azerbaijan, said Kocharyan.

“The Helsinki Final Act unequivocally refers to the UN Charter. Thus, the Act reflects everything, but there was need in making a reference to the UN Charter to prevent political gambling,” noted Kocharyan.

The Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister recalled that, according to the first chapter of the UN Charter, nations’ self-determination is among the organization’s purposes. Its second chapter presents the principles aimed at fulfillment of these purposes, while territorial integrity is among these principles. “In such case, territorial integrity can never be opposed to nations’ right to self-determination,” he concluded.
