ANC Coordinator: people to decide on Armenia’s future during March 17 rally

PanARMENIAN.Net - On behalf of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), Coordinator of ANC Levon Zurabyan called on all supporters of the opposition to be disciplined and organized during the March 17 rally.

He urged the RA Police to refrain from aggressive behavior, participation of police in mufti, as well as from blocking of streets.

As for certain action of the ANC during the March 17 rally, Zurabyan refrained from going into details, adding that the people will themselves make a decision during the rally.

According to him, people make various offers with respect to further actions of the opposition.

Based on the March 1 oppositional rally results, the ANC adopted a statement demanding for resignation of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, the Police Chief and other high-ranking officials of Armenia.

Among other demands are: creation of an international committee on March 1-2, 2008 events, compensation for families of the victims of the events indicated, removal of a ban on rallies at Victory Square, solution of a number of social issues.

The opposition also demanded normalization of Karabakh talks and NKR involvement in negotiation process. The ANC urged the international community, specifically, the U.S. to stop supporting the “ruling regime” of Armenia. According to the statement, the ANC will negotiate the possibility of the extraordinary elections within the next few months. “It’s not a simple political statement, it’s a program for a national struggle,” ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan stressed.
