Armenian MP: media ascribes ulterior motives to opposition rally participants

PanARMENIAN.Net - A member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) shared his views on oppositional movement in Armenia at news conference in Yerevan.

“I dream about the time when local opposition, rather than controlled and financed by the outward forces, will act based on patriotic principles,” Hamlet Harutyunyan stated.

“Few countries are actually interested in political stability in Armenia,” he said, adding, “we have few allies, and a host of enemies.” Harutyunyan cited internal disagreements throughout the history of the country as one of the main reasons for the crash of the Armenian statehood.

Commenting on the expected number of protesters at March 17 Armenian National Congress rally, Harutyunyan characterized the participants’ number as an irrelevant. “The demonstrators don’t aim to organize riots, no matter what intentions the media might ascribe them. The rally participants only attempt to draw the authorities’ attention to current problems,” Harutyunyan noted.
