A PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent reported from the scene that the rally was opened by Chairman of the Armenian National Movement board Aram Manukyan. He congratulated the rally participants on “liberation” of the square, pointing to its importance for the Armenian people. “Independence of the Republic of Armenia was declared here,” said Manukyan.
