  Deployment of peacekeepers not discussed in Karabakh talks, Minister says  June 14, 2011 - 14:02 AMTPanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia and Azerbaijan did not discuss possibility of deployment of peacekeepers in Nagorno Karabakh, Armenian Foreign Minister said. “Issues concerning deployment of peacekeeping forces in Karabakh have not been discussed over the past 3 years. Thus, no agreement can be reached on an issue that has not been discussed,” Edward Nalbandian told a press conference in Yerevan. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan continuously assures that deployment of peacekeepers is one of the items on the negotiations agenda. As Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said recently, “the issue demands extra discussions.”   4 14.06.11 - Joint press conference of FM of Armenia Edward Nalbandian and of Sweden Carl Bildt       The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
