Nalbandian draws OSCE MG attention to Baku’s similar statements on Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - On July 18, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian met with OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs Bernard Fassier of France, Robert Bradtke of the United States, and Igor Popov of Russia, as well as personal representative of OSCE Chairman-in-Office Anjey Kasprzyk, according to RA MFA press service.

Collocutors discussed steps leading to achievement of progress in negotiations on Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. OSCE MG co-chairs who left Baku for Yerevan exchanged impressions with Armenia’s Foreign Minister.

In turn, Nalbandian addressed Baku’s calls to start elaboration of peace treaty immediately without coordinating fundamental principles, noting that they contradict both to the logic of negotiations and positions of mediators.

At early July, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov handed over a personal message and proposals of RF President Dmitry Medvedev to Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev. “The proposals on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement were formulated following the outcomes of the meeting between the Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Kazan.,” Lavrov said.

At June 24 meeting in Kazan, the Presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia failed to sign an agreement on basic principles of Karabakh conflict settlement. As Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian noted later, despite the OSCE MG co-chairs’ efforts, Azerbaijan was not ready to accept the final version of basic principles, presenting ten new amendments at the last moment.
