Armenia recorded considerable progress in cooperation program with EU

PanARMENIAN.Net - On May 20, EU published a report on Armenia’s progress, comprising positive assessment to Armenia-EU global political cooperation, said Secretary of the Council of National Security Arthur Baghdasaryan .

“If we compare this report with that of neighboring Azerbaijan’s it becomes obvious that Armenia has recorded a considerable progress in cooperation program with EU,” Baghdasaryan said opening the 10th sitting of the interdepartmental commission for coordination of cooperation between Armenian state bodies and European structures.

“EU welcomed reforms in the political field of the country, as well as the dialogue between authorities and the opposition,” said the Secretary adding that reforms in economic, legislative fields as well as in the sphere of complex management of the country’s state border were also highly praised by EU.

“The process of complex modernization of three frontier points on the Armenian border is completing on August 25. Particularly, we are to develop respective technical tasks and an outline in line with EU standards and we hope to launch joint construction of three big frontier points on the Georgia border in October, to put an end to various obstacles that are currently faced on border,” Baghdasaryan said.

European Commission also welcomed the frontier strategy adopted in Armenia, according to him. The Secretary of the Council of National Security stated that there are positive changes in the spheres of justice, freedom and security, as well as in adoption of infrastructures development strategy in Armenia for 2010-2020.

“Positive estimates are encouraging, but European Commission also suggested to continue reforms in 10 directions. We must sum us results of the work done since the program for 2011 is coming to an end, and we must think over development of a new program for 2012-2014, that is a very difficult job,” Baghdasaryan said.
