PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA THINKS THAT ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION WILL HELP ESTABLISH ATMOSPHERE OF TRUST IN THE REGION

PanARMENIAN.Net - 17.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Active participation of the European Union in the regional programs will help establish peace, stability and atmosphere of trust in the South Caucasus.

As was reported to MEDIAMAX in the press office of the President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian declared about this at the meeting with the Ambassador of Belgium to Armenia Andre Mernie (the residence is in Moscow).

President Kocharian noted that Armenia hopes for Belgium's support in the matter of Armenia's integration into European structure, and hoped that Belgium's chairmanship in the European Union will favor this.

Ambassador Mernie said that Belgium strives to establish close relations with Armenia and stressed that the upcoming visit of the vice-president, foreign minister of Belgium Louis Michele to Armenia will help this.

Expressing his satisfaction with the present level of bilateral economic cooperation, Robert Kocharian stressed the considerable contribution of Armenian community of Belgium, which, according to him, became a serious factor in the relations of the two countries. -0-
