ARMENIAN PRESIDENT SIGNED OMBUDSMAN DECREENovember 17, 2003 - 18:45 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - November 15, Armenian President Robert Kocharian signed the decree on the appointment of the Human Rights Advocate approved by the parliament of the country. In accordance with the law, an Armenian citizen no younger than 35 years old and possessing high prestige in the society, can become the ombudsman. The first ombudsman will be appointed by the president, however, after the adoption of the first draft of the constitutional amendments, the authorities of the ombudsman will be over and the next one will be elected by deputies. The ombudsman will possess no right to interfere in the court examination process, but will however enabled to make proposes for the just consideration of the case within the frames of the European standards on Human Rights.Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
