Day of Yerevan to be celebrated October 11

PanARMENIAN.Net - The 2790th birthday of Yerevan will be celebrated on October 11, said Kamo Movsisyan, head of the division for cultural, youth and sports affairs at the Yerevan Mayor's Office.



"The Day of Yerevan is celebrated on the second Saturday of October. This year the date is October 11," he said.



"The Mayor's Office is developing the program of festivities. We want this day to be a city-wide holiday. Numerous foreign delegations and tourists will arrive in our capital to attend the events," he said, Novosti Armenia reports.



The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the Urartian fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC. Its foundation stone is kept in the Erebuni Museum.



It has been the capital of Armenia since 1918 and the twelfth in the history of Armenia.
