AZERI POLITICAL SCIENTISTS DIVIDED IN OPINION

PanARMENIAN.Net - Many Azeri political scientists question the statement by foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov, who said that Armenia agreed to return seven regions adjacent to Nagorno Karabakh, Caucasian Knot reported. Political scientist Vafa Guluzade considers that the "Presidents' discussions were mostly conditioned by the concern of the Minsk Group over the frequent violations of the cease-fire. "Kocharyan's statements at the summit showed that the Armenian party has not abandoned its aggressive position and in not going to discuss any settlement variants providing for Karabakh's remaining within Azerbaijan. I do not believe that Armenians will agree to return the territories", Guluzade noted. Political scientist Rasim Gambekov was more optimistic. "Certainly, the resumption of the negotiations is a positive factor. But if upon completion of the meeting the Armenian leader mentions of prospects of integrating de facto Karabakh Republic into the European structures the chances for compromise will be unavailing", he said.
