Another opposition newspaper closed in Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - By decision of Aidyn Guliyev, the editor-in-chief of Baky Kheber, the last edition of the opposition newspaper will be printed tomorrow. "The staff treats the closing with understanding. These people have always been near me and I am hopeful we will search for a way-out together. We have a common goal, which is to restore our edition," he said, Day.az reports.

Baky Kheber was forced to suspend activities because of penalties imposed by the court.

The bank accounts of Baky-Kheber have been under arrest since May 18, 2007.

The editorial staff of Gundelik Azerbaijan and Real Azerbaijan opposition newspapers were also expelled from the premises by initiative of the Azeri Ministry of Emergency Situations. "The MES representatives claim that the ground floor of the high-rise building, rented by Gundelik Azerbaijan and Real Azerbaijan, is in accident condition and needs repair. Logically, the residents of nearby flats should be evicted as well. However, nothing of the kind will happen. We were just thrown out of the premises we paid for till December 1, 2007. It's unclear yet, whether will get our money back. We do not know whether will be able to resume work," said Shahveled Chobanoglu, the editor-in-chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan.
