Police in Saratov accused of murdering Armenian citizenMay 8, 2009 - 21:08 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On May 7, Prosecutor of Saratov region confirmed the bill of particulars against 3 police officers from Saratov police department (Lenin region) accused of murdering RA citizen Armen Gasparyan.On October 28, 2008, the above-mentioned policemen (ranking from junior to senior lieutenant) arrested a man, and forced him to confess to having robbed golden items. As a matter of fact, the person arrested had not even witnessed the crime. Unable to extort confessions, they beat the him to death and then moved his body to a forest plantation to burn it with petrol. The police officers' deeds is punishable under Section 3, Article 286 (Abuse of Official Powers) and Section 2 Article 105 (premeditated murder) of RF Criminal Code. Law envisages maximum punishment for up to 25 years in prison or life sentence. The Prosecutor has sent the case to Saratov district court for further consideration, Gazeta.ru reports.
