Only final recognition of NKR will disillusion Azerbaijani authorities

PanARMENIAN.Net - Advisor to NKR Foreign Minister Ruben Zargaryan said that the Azerbaijani authorities have no any arguments for their baseless revanchist territorial claims to the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (Republic of Artsakh), accept for threats of war resumption and military provocations.

“Baku’s revanchists and warmongers, who organized the June 18, 2010, provocation at the Karabakh-Azerbaijani border, have once again proved that they are unable to conduct peace negotiations, that they do not recognize the international right and ignore the international agreements signed earlier,” Zargaryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

“Azerbaijan is piling up arms, the only purpose of which is to shoot at NKR citizens. It should be clear for everyone. Azerbaijan’s ideology and policy is open and rather primitive: it wants to annihilate Nagorno Karabakh and then Armenia, and if Nagorno Karabakh does not agree with it, it means that NKR rejects compromises,” said Zargaryan.

Thus, Zargaryan questioned the possibility of efficient negotiations with the current Azerbaijani authorities on the Karabakh conflict resolution, as they do not recognize NKR’s right to existence.

According to Zargaryan, through its provocative and aggressive policy Baku forces the world community to finally recognize NKR’s independence, what would have disillusioned the Azerabaijani authorities and made them conduct serious negotiations with NKR.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
