Deauville statement proves G8 adherence to peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflictMay 31, 2011 - 17:10 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The joint statement on Karabakh conflict issued by the presidents of Russia, US and France during G8 summit in Deauville must be assessed as the commitment of the United States and those countries to their work for peaceful solution to the conflict, the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan stated. As Matthew Bryza told journalist during his visit to Lankaran region of Azerbaijan, the time came for the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia to meet. “We believe and hope that the presidents of both countries will think about the basic principles of the peace agreement. The basic principles are not a final peace agreement, but this is a coordinated document which can be a basis for the final peace agreement. Since my arrival in Azerbaijan as the ambassador, I have noted that the most important issue of my mission is to support and assist the Minsk Group’s activity because this conflict must only be solved peacefully,” he stressed. Bryza, however, refrained to comment on the upcoming meeting between the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents not mediating the negotiations at present. “But Deauville statement by the US, Russian and French presidents encouraged me. I hope that optimist and positive atmosphere established after the meeting of Presidents Aliyev and Sargsyan on March 5 in Sochi, will be continued at the next meeting,” APA cited the Ambassador as saying.
