Serge Avedikian to present new film about Istanbul stray dogs next year

PanARMENIAN.Net - French-Armenian filmmaker Serge Avedikian said that currently he is completing the work at a new documentary on stray dogs of Istanbul.

“This is my second film about dogs,” Avedikian told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

The first one – Chienne D'histoire (Barking Island), which won the Best Short Film prize at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival, will be featured during ReAnimania festival this year.

According to Avedikian, the second film telling about the same dogs in 100 years, and the film will be presented in 2011.

“I wanted to show people the way dogs see them, as well as to present the established traditions and complex relations between people and dogs in the film. It is a peculiar portrayal of modern Istanbul, which is in a process of urbanization and Europeanization. Stray dogs are semi-free in Turkey. They freely walk the streets, but they are sterilized,” Avedikian noted.
