Answering a question of member of Heritage parliamentary group Zaruhi Postanjyan, the Minister said during a governmental hour in the parliament that the government has licensed only exploration works aimed at revelation of a uranium deposit. According to Movsisyan, it is too early to speak about development of such deposits, as only in 3-5 years it will become clear whether there is uranium in Armenia. Movsisyan added: “If there are uranium reserves, mining of which will be ecologically safe, why should we refrain from uranium extraction?” According to the Minister, uranium extraction will not hamper tourism development in Syunik region.
