Armenian diamond cutting industry recovering

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian diamond cutting industry recovering, according to Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan.

“After the crisis, economy is recovering not so rapidly as we wish. However, the diamond cutting industry is among fields to be given special attention,” the Minister said during a roundtable discussion with participation of representatives of ALROSA, Russia’s largest diamond company.

The discussion aimed to determine the future bilateral cooperation plans and strengthen partnership.

3,189 carats of diamond were produced in Armenia in January 2011 against 3,078 carats during the same period in 2010. 12.5kg of jewelry was produced during the reporting period against 17.2kg in 2010. The slump in the industry was 27.3% compared to January 2010.
