Bruno Scapini:

Armenia has an air of ancient mysticism

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ever since I came to Armenia in 2009 I was greatly surprised to discover that far from Italy, beyond the sea, there could be a country so close to it, Ambassador Bruno Scapini said. With a truly Italian charm, Mr Bruno Scapini shared the story of his experience in our country, perception of Armenian traditions and impressions of his travels here.

After a while, I realized that our convergence can be explained by common traits our countries have. Armenia had a real role during Roman Empire, Christianity being another important stage of convergence. Armenia was the 1st country to adopt Christianity, and I think that Christians share similar vision and values.

There was nothing about the country I found odd; however, the curiosity I discovered was the atmosphere of mysticysm around archaeological heritage and monasteries. The mountains in Armenia are very different from the ones we have in Europe. Even though your mountains are very high, they are open. And there is a special perception that I had while traveling Armenia. It’s the feeling that that the mountains or the horizon around you are at arm's length, yet they escape you the moment you reach them.”

The Ambassador named the monastery of Noravank, so harmanious with the cliffs surrounding it as his favorite place in Armenia.

In Armenia there is a very high disposition to art in general, especially music. I was much impressed to find a lot of opera singers, theaters to prove my impression.”

“The only funny thing that I came across, in spite of the fact that there are always some exceptions in one sense or in the other, is that in Armenia there is a big distance between a medium level of beauty of men and women, the latter being so much more attractive. There must be a sort of special genetic mechanism for that kind of transmission,” the Ambassador concluded with a smile.
