Google accepting applications for 2011 Google Summer of Code

PanARMENIAN.Net - Google starts accepting applications from students for the 2011 Google Summer of Code, according to The Official Google Blog.

This is a global program for university students worldwide. They can receive stipend to write code for open source projects, gain experience in real-world software development and create more source code which benefits everyone on the web.

Goals of GSoC program are: to get more open source code written and released for the benefit of all, to inspire young developers to begin participating in open source development, to help open source projects identify and bring in new developers, to provide students the opportunity to do work related to their academic pursuits during the summer, give students more exposure to real-world software development (for example, distributed development and version control, software licensing issues, and mailing list etiquette).

To apply for the program applicants should visit program website www.google-melange.com and submit proposal. The deadline for applying is April 8 at 12pm PDT.

Google Summer of Code began in 2005 as a complex experiment. In GSoC's first year, 40 projects and 400 students participated. In 2010, the sixth Google Summer of Code wrapped up to the best results yet: 89% of the 1,026 student participants in the program successfully completed their projects.
