Iran seizes 30 tons of drugs in a year![]() May 6, 2012 - 12:11 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Iran's drug combat squads seized 30 tons of narcotics in the Eastern province of South Khorassan last year, a provincial police chief announced on Sunday, May 6. Addressing a gathering of police trainers and instructors in Iran's Eastern city of Birjand, South Khorassan's Police Chief General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi said that a total volume of 30 tons of different types of narcotics has been discovered and seized by the police forces throughout the province during the last Iranian year (March 21, 2011-March 19, 2012). He also lauded the police training programs, and underlined that police efforts made Iranian borders impenetrable, Fars News Agency reported. Eastern Iran borders Afghanistan, which is the world's number one opium and drug producer. Iran's geographical position has made the country a favorite transit corridor for drug traffickers who smuggle their cargoes from Afghanistan to drug dealers in Europe. ![]() ![]() Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert.
