Iranian news agency reporter arrested in Kabul

PanARMENIAN.Net - Afghan security forces arrested Fars News Agency (FNA)'s correspondent in Kabul Abdulvahed Hakimi and took him to an unknown place, the agency quoted his wife as saying on Sunday, May 6.

"Abdulvahed informed his family in a very short and controlled call that he had been arrested by Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security (NDS)," his wife said.

She said her husband had left home Saturday morning for a report on the Kabul museum but didn't return.

Hakimi is also in charge of FNA's office in Kabul.

The NDS refrained from commenting on the case.

The FNA office is one of the most active press in Afghanistan with its official office in Kabul.

Sources privy to the case said the detention of FNA's correspondent in Kabul might be the result of a misunderstanding among Afghan security bodies and their lack of knowledge about FNA's licensed operation in Afghanistan.
