Roadside bomb kills policeman in Pakistan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Pakistani security officials say a roadside bomb targeting a vehicle carrying police has killed one of them in the country's northwest, AP reported.

Police officer Javed Khan says 12 civilians and five police officers were also wounded in the May 12 attack in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

He says the officers were escorting a prison van, but no prisoner was hurt.

No group has claimed responsibility, but the Pakistani branch of the Taliban often targets police, military troops and other security forces to pressure the government to end support for the United States in its campaign against al-Qaida and other militant groups.
