UK, Iran to formalize embassy closures June 28, 2012 - 13:45 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The UK, which shut its embassy in Tehran last year after an assault, has reached an agreement with Iran to open interests sections, the official Islamic Republic News Agency said. According to IRNA, Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Oman will be in charge of the Iranian interests section in London, while Sweden will represent British interests in Tehran. “There have been other discussions and facilities as well for our fellow citizens in UK so that they would face no problem in their consular affairs, and we have to wait and see what the course of the future developments would be,” Salehi said. According to Bloomberg, the British Foreign Office wasn’t immediately able to comment on the reports. The UK closed its embassy in Tehran and ordered Iran to remove its diplomats from London after the sites were stormed in November by the pro-government Basij militia, which accused Britain of links to the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists.
