Haqqani leader killed in Afghan airstrike, NATO forces say August 6, 2012 - 16:28 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Nato forces said they have killed a leader of the Haqqani insurgent group in an air strike in eastern Afghanistan, Belfast Telegraph reported. The international military coalition said Sher Mohammad Hakimi was killed in Logar province on Sunday, August 5. Logar province police chief Raeis Khan Rahimzai said Hakimi was sitting under a tree with some associates when the Nato strike killed him. Four other people were injured. Mr Rahimzai said Hakimi was known for organising roadside bomb attacks and for training insurgents. Nato said Hakimi transported weapons through the region and served directly under Haqqani leader Muhammad Agha. The Pakistan-based Haqqani network is allied with the Taliban and al Qaida and is believed to be responsible for a host of attacks in Kabul and surrounding provinces.
