Official: EU Twinning project improved law-making in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Practical results of the EU Twinning project “Support to the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia: Regulatory Management/Standard Cost Model” were showcased in Yerevan on Sept. 19.

As RA Deputy Minister of Economy Karine Minasyan noted in her speech, the project had an important impact on the process of law-making in Armenia. The Head of Operations of the EU Delegation to Armenia Jean-Christophe Gayrand also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the project, which have improved the regulatory framework in the country.

“Better regulation means better laws that help save taxpayers’ money, reduce bureaucracy and make the business environment more attractive for both local and foreign entrepreneurs,” deputy minister said.

The regulatory impact assessment team of the Ministry of Economy, the direct beneficiary of the project, has evaluated a total of 580 new laws and decrees last year with the aim of determining whether they might have any impact in the fields of competition or small and medium enterprises.

“Support to the Ministry of the Republic of Armenia: Regulatory Management/Standard Cost Model” is funded by the European Union with 1 mln. Euro. The project started Feb. 1, 2010 and will close Sept. 28, 2012. HAUS Finnish Institute if Public Management is the member partner of the project.
