Israeli President Shimon Peres on Thursday, September 27 called Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's UN General Assembly speech "shameful", Jerusalem Post reported citing Channel 2.
Speaking at a Sukkah-decorating event at the presidential residence, Peres said the Iranian president's speech attests to a "profound historical ignorance of the deep historical connection the Jewish people have to the land of Israel."
The president added that Ahmadinejad's assertion that Jewish ties to their country are only 60 or 70 years old are "complete nonsense."
"Ahmadinejad needs a history lesson", President Peres said. "I was embarrassed to see a president who speaks at the UN and does not know his own country's history."
