At least 7 killed in Baghdad Shiite neighborhood attacks![]() October 23, 2012 - 11:00 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A car bomb and mortar attacks against predominantly Shiite neighborhoods in north Baghdad killed at least seven people Tuesday, Oct 23, security and medical officials said, according to AFP. Multiple mortars struck the Chikouk area, while a car bomb exploded in Shuala, an interior ministry official said, putting the toll at nine dead and 12 wounded. A medical official said seven people died and 22 were hurt, but warned that the toll could rise. Partner news Amy Elliott, chief administrative officer of the Oklahoma medical examiner's office, said 51 were confirmed dead. An Islamist insurgency, once confined largely to the republic of Chechnya, has spread across the North Caucasus in recent years. Earlier, at least five Azerbaijan soldiers were killed and six seriously injured when their vehicle rammed into a tree and overturned.
