Police arrest suspect in Bolshoi director attack![]() March 5, 2013 - 11:10 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Police in Moscow have detained a suspect over a horrific acid attack on the Bolshoi Theater’s artistic director, RIA Novosti reported citing a police spokesperson. The suspect, who was not named, is being questioned, the spokesperson said. A masked assailant threw concentrated acid into the face of Sergei Filin, the Bolshoi’s artistic director, on January 17 in Moscow, before fleeing the scene. He suffered third-degree burns to his face and eyes. Filin, who has undergone several surgeries in an attempt to rescue his eyesight, said last month he knew his attacker. He also speculated the aim of the attack was to remove him as artistic director and destroy the prestigious Moscow ballet company's reputation. Partner news Amy Elliott, chief administrative officer of the Oklahoma medical examiner's office, said 51 were confirmed dead. An Islamist insurgency, once confined largely to the republic of Chechnya, has spread across the North Caucasus in recent years. Earlier, at least five Azerbaijan soldiers were killed and six seriously injured when their vehicle rammed into a tree and overturned.
