Freedom House: Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh "Partially Free" Countries

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Freedom House NGO engaged in research of freedom in the world yesterday made public its annual report. The document divides countries into three categories: "free", "partially free" and "not free." Armenia, as in the previous report, was included in the category of "partially free" countries. Nagorno Karabakh, which is considered a disputed territory in the report, is also among "partially free" countries, where Abkhazia appears as well. Meanwhile, Transdniestria is "not free" and the unrecognized Republic of Northern Cyprus is "free." According to the Freedom House report, "freedom has strengthened its positions in the world" in 2005. 89 countries were recognized "free," 58 - "partially free" and 45 - "not free." When determining a country's rating, the organization took into account events that took place from December 1, 2004 to November 30, 2005. Georgia and Turkey were included in the category of "partially free" countries, while Iran and Azerbaijan are in the "not free" category.
