More than 100 people were wounded by the blasts in mostly Shia areas of the city, according to police and medics. This year has been one of the deadliest since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Although violence has decreased across the country since the peak of the insurgency in 2006 and 2007, bombings are still common.
