Baghdad blasts leave 24 dead, 75 injured

PanARMENIAN.Net - At least 24 people have been killed in a wave of car bombings in Shiite areas of Baghdad, Iraqi officials said, Belfast Telegraph said citing The Associated Press.

Police said the explosions hit outdoor markets and car parks. The deadliest blast was in the eastern Sadr City neighborhood where seven died. Officers said 75 other people were injured in the attacks.

Medical officials confirmed the casualty figures.

According to BBC News, one of the deadliest attacks was reported from the eastern Sadr City district where seven people were killed and 75 injured in a crowded vegetable market.

At least 25 people were killed on Sunday, September 29 when a suicide bomber attacked a Shia Muslim mosque south of Baghdad.

Irbil, the normally stable capital of Iraq's autonomous province of Kurdistan, was hit by a series of bombings on the same day, killing six members of the security services. Officials said that violence could be linked to fighting between jihadists and Kurds in Syria.

No-one has claimed responsibility for Monday's attacks, but Sunni Muslim insurgents have been blamed for much of the most recent violence.

More than 4,500 people have been killed so far this year.
