The two sides met in private in a London hotel for the informal diplomatic talks Wednesday, Oct 2. The six-party talks have been deadlocked since late 2008. Pyongyang withdrew from the aid-for-disarmament talks in 2009. Over the past year it has made clear it wants to be treated as a nuclear weapons state. Stephen Bosworth, a former U.S. special envoy for North Korean policy, said after the meeting that it was "cordial and respectful." He declined to comment on the substance of what was covered.
