  Syrian presidential election begins June 3, 2014 - 09:14 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Syrians began voting on Tuesday, June 3, in an election expected to deliver an overwhelming victory to President Bashar al-Assad in the midst of a civil war that has fractured the country and killed, according to monitors, over 160,000 people, Reuters reported. Polling stations opened at 7 am (12.00 am ET) in parts of Syria under Assad's government control. Assad is running against two relatively unknown challengers who were approved by parliament to participate in the election, which the president's international opponents have dismissed as a sham.   Top stories Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive. In 2023, the Azerbaijani government will increase the country’s defense budget by more than 1.1 billion manats ($650 million). The bill, published on Monday, is designed to "eliminate the shortcomings of an unreasonably broad interpretation of the key concept of "compatriot". The earthquake caused a temporary blackout, damaged many buildings and closed a number of rural roads.
