Afghan forces, Taliban insurgents fight at Camp Bastion

PanARMENIAN.Net - Taliban insurgents battled Afghan forces for hours at Camp Bastion, a sprawling military base handed over by British troops last month, authorities said Saturday, Nov 29, according to CNN.

The offensive at the base in Helmand province started Thursday night and was still going on early Saturday.

At least five Afghan troops and nine Taliban fighters were dead in the fighting, according to Omar Zowak, a spokesman for the provincial governor.

This is not the first time Afghan insurgents have attacked Camp Bastion, the military base where Britain's Prince Harry was deployed.

British troops vacated the base on October 14 and left it in the hands of their Afghan counterparts.

During the Afghanistan war, the base housed British and coalition troops.
