Foreign Minister, UK officials talk Karabakh conflict, ties with EU

PanARMENIAN.Net - Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian’s official visit to the United Kingdom started with a meeting with Philip Hammond, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on Wednesday, September 9.

According to Foreign Ministry’s press office, Nalbandian and Hammond discussed ways to expand cooperation between the two states, EU-Armenia relations and the measures taken to form a new legal basis for cooperation.

The officials also exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East, the Syrian crisis, international community’s struggle against terrorism, agreements on Iran nuclear deal, among other issues.

Nalbandian briefed Hammond on the events marking the centennial of the Armenian Genocide, thanking Great Britain for co-authoring the resolution on Genocide prevention initiated by Armenia at the UN.

At a working lunch with David Lidington, UK’s Minister for Europe, Armenian-British relations, Armenia-EU cooperation, the Ukrainian crisis and several other issues were discussed.

Nalbandian also presented efforts by Armenia and OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs for the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Nalbandian gave an interview to BBC TV the same day.
