Foreign leaders congratulate Armenia on Independence Day

PanARMENIAN.Net - As Armenia celebrates the 24th anniversary of Independence on Monday, September 21, the President Serzh Sargsyan has been receiving congratulatory messages from heads of states, international organizations, representatives of governmental and non-governmental bodies, clergy members and individuals worldwide.

U.S. President Barack Obama sent his best wishes to the people of Armenia through a statement by Secretary of State, John Kerry.

“The United States values our relationship with Armenia, which remains as strong as ever, as evidenced by the historic level of American investment in Armenia’s economy today. We are grateful for the dedication and sacrifice of Armenian troops serving in international peacekeeping missions and celebrate the many achievements of Armenians who have enriched the cultural fabric of both our nations.

As you celebrate 24 years of independence, know that the United States is a partner and friend and that we fully support the security, prosperity, and democratic development of Armenia,” the statement reads.

Russian President Vladimir Putin issued congratulations, stressing the successful and comprehensive development of Russian-Armenian relations. He hailed Armenia’s commitment to further strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation, both bilateral and within the EEU, CSTO and CIS framework.

Putin confirmed Russia's readiness to continue to assist Armenia in solving urgent social and economic issues.

French President Francois Hollande also joined his colleagues in sending a congratulatory letter to President Sargsyan.

“I once again would like to assure you that France will continue offering solidarity and support to Armenia. As an OSCE Minsk Group co-chair, France will spare no effort for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict,” the message reads.

Hollande said he is glad to have visited Armenia on the centennial of the Armenian Genocide on April 24, 2015.

Chinese President Xi Jinping also congratulated President Sargsyan on Armenia’s National Day.

“I have always stressed the importance of Armenian-Chinese relations and am ready to make further efforts to take them to a new level. I wish prosperity, happiness and welfare to the country and people,” Jinping said in his message.

Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom also issued a statement on Armenia's Independence Day, noting: “It is my great pleasure to congratulate you on the occasion of the National Day. I wish happiness and prosperity to the people of Armenia.”

Also congratulating Sargsyan was German President Joachim Gauck.

“Germany goes on being Armenia’s partner. Close relationship and mutual trust between our two countries have quickly and comprehensively developed since the re-conquest of Armenia's independence,” Gauck’s statement reads.

“My heartfelt wish is the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the reestablishment of Armenian-Turkish relations,” the German President concluded.

Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan sent a letter to Sargsyan to wish peace and prosperity to the people and Armenia.

“The Armenian people have suffered severe deprivations, but they never despaired, never lost their national identity, faith, language, never, even for a moment, relinquishing their goals.
