Turkey carries out anti-PKK air strikes in northern Iraq

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkey's military says its jets have carried out new raids on suspected Kurdish rebel targets across the border in northern Iraq, the Associated Press reports.

The military has been striking at bases and hideouts of the rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, since July, when renewed fighting between the rebels and Turkish security forces broke down, shattering a fragile peace process that had begun in 2012.

A military statement on Tuesday, November 3, said the Turkish jets hit PKK shelters, underground bunkers and weapon emplacements in six locations in northern Iraq, including the Qandil Mountains, where the rebel leadership is based.

The brief military statement said the aerial operation took place on Monday.

It was the first attack on PKK targets in Iraq since the ruling party won a resounding victory in Sunday's election.
