Armenia provides real opportunities for U.S. entrepreneurs: envoy

PanARMENIAN.Net - The United States aims to make Armenia attractive for investments, the U.S. ambassador to the country said at the first meeting of the U.S.-Armenia Council on Trade and Investment on Tuesday, November 17, Aravot.am reports.

“No one can instruct the American entrepreneurs to come and make investments in Armenia,” Richard Mills told a briefing. “And the Armenian businessmen can’t be instructed to make investments in the United States either. We are trying to make both countries attractive for investments.”

According to him, the meeting will address customs and licensing-related issues that can hinder the trade between the two countries.

“Armenia provides real opportunities for American businesses. Most importantly, equal conditions should be ensured for the U.S., French, Russian and other entrepreneurs with the same approach by the Armenian government, judiciary, court and legal systems,” Ambassador Mills said.

During the first meeting of the Armenia-U.S. Council on Trade and Investment, technical experts from both sides were scheduled to discuss a wide range of issues, including intellectual property rights, customs clearances, technical barriers to trade, sanitary measures, investment promotion efforts, private sector engagement, government procurement, WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, as well as environmental and labor issues.

The U.S.-Armenia Joint Economic Task Force will meet in Yerevan on Thursday to discuss economic issues of mutual interest.
