Iran border village hit by 3 mortar shells fired in Karabakh clashes

PanARMENIAN.Net - Three mortar shells fired during clashes in Nagorno Karabakh hit a village in Iran's Northwestern province of East Azarbaijan, local officials announced on Sunday, April 3, according to Fars news.

"The three shells hit one of the villages of Khodafarin region near Nagorno Karabakh border," the deputy governor-general of East Azarbaijan province said.

The official said that the Iranian border guards have warned Azerbaijani and Armenian sides of aggression against the Iranian soil, adding that both sides pledged that such a situation won’t be repeated.

On the night of April 1-2, Azerbaijani armed forces initiated overt offensive operations in the southern, southeastern and northeastern directions of the line of contact with Nagorno Karabakh, using artillery, armored fighting vehicles and air force equipment among other weapons.

As many as 18 Karabakh servicemen were killed and 35-40 were wounded in the course of military operations.

As of April 3, the Azerbaijani side has lost 15 tanks and over 5 armored vehicles, including an IFV, as well as 2 military helicopters and 3 unmanned aerial vehicles.
