Second Talysh on the brink of fleeing Azerbaijan for ArmeniaFebruary 20, 2017 - 13:25 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Resident of Talysh-inhabited region of Lerik Eldaniz Guliyev has threatened the Azerbaijani authorities to move to Armenia, Talysh Info reports citing blogger Azar Kazymov. Guliyev posted on his Facebook a statement addressed to Azeri President Ilham Aliyev. In his statement, the Talysh explained that the head of the executive power of Lerik region Rovshan Bagirov forcibly took away his own land. Guliyev was then summoned to the district police station and threatened, to prevent him from complaning anywhere. Desperate after the incident, Guliyev said the only way out of this situation was to move to Armenia, because, according to him, no one in Azerbaijan would ever consider his complaint. As reported earlier,Azerbaijani citizen Shahin Mirzoev is seeking temporary asylum in Armenia. A Talysh journalist and activist, Mirzoev has asked for temporary asylum as a means of escaping persecution. Mirzoev and his family fled Azerbaijan following continued oppression at the hands of the government. As members of a minority community, Mirzoev and the Talysh people are subject to discrimination by local authorities on both religious and ethnic grounds.
